First Responders & Military Veterans
You protect everyone else. You absorb things most people will never see. You do the job, go home, and carry it alone because that is what the culture expects. We built this program because you deserve the same caliber of care you provide to others.
The Job Takes More Than You Admit
First responders and veterans experience trauma exposure at rates the general population never approaches. The culture says push through it. The data says that approach is failing.
The stigma is the barrier, not the treatment. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness. It is the same operational discipline you apply to everything else: identify the problem, deploy the right resource, resolve the issue. The providers at Modern Mentality understand your world because one of us served in it.
We Understand Your World
Most civilian mental health providers have never worked with first responders or veterans. They do not understand the culture, the operational environment, or the specific nature of cumulative trauma. We do.
Combat Veteran Leadership
Our President, Jason Driscoll, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is a decorated U.S. Army combat veteran with multiple deployments. He understands the military and first responder experience from the inside, not from a textbook.
Complete Confidentiality
We do not contact your department, your commanding officer, or your employer. Period. Your records are protected by HIPAA and Massachusetts state privacy laws. What happens here stays here.
No-Judgment Clinical Environment
You will never be pathologized for doing your job. We understand that what you have experienced is not a personal failing. Our approach treats the neurological impact of operational exposure, not a character deficiency.
Telehealth for Privacy
Virtual appointments mean no waiting room encounters with people from your department or community. Schedule around shifts. Access care from anywhere in Massachusetts or New Hampshire.
Conditions Common in Your Profession
The symptoms below are occupational hazards, not personal failures. Each requires targeted clinical intervention, not generic counseling.
PTSD and Complex Trauma
Single-incident trauma and cumulative exposure produce different clinical presentations. We assess and treat both using evidence-based trauma protocols, pharmacotherapy, and validated outcome tracking.
PCL-5 MonitoredDepression and Burnout
Emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and loss of purpose are not inevitable consequences of the career. They are treatable conditions that respond to the right combination of medication and therapeutic intervention.
PHQ-9 MonitoredAnxiety and Hypervigilance
On-duty situational awareness becomes off-duty hypervigilance that erodes relationships and sleep. We help your nervous system distinguish between operational readiness and pathological arousal.
GAD-7 MonitoredSubstance Use and Self-Medication
Alcohol and other substances are common coping strategies in first responder culture. We address the underlying condition driving the use without judgment, using AUDIT screening and evidence-based approaches.

Ongoing Support
We monitor your progress with clinical outcome measures at every visit and adjust the plan as needed. You are never left wondering whether treatment is working. We show you the data.
Frequently Asked
Will my department find out?
No. Your treatment is protected by HIPAA and Massachusetts state privacy laws. We do not notify employers, departments, or military commands. We do not produce fitness-for-duty evaluations. Your records are yours.
Will treatment affect my ability to carry a firearm or maintain my certification?
Seeking outpatient psychiatric treatment does not automatically affect your professional certifications or firearms eligibility. We understand these concerns and can discuss them openly during your consultation.
I do not think I have PTSD. I just cannot sleep and I am angry all the time.
Sleep disruption and irritability are among the most common presentations in first responders, and they frequently indicate an underlying condition that responds well to treatment. A clinical evaluation can determine what is driving those symptoms and how to resolve them.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Harvard Pilgrim, Tufts, Point32 Health, and self-pay.
Can I be seen after my shift ends?
Yes. We offer flexible scheduling including telehealth appointments that accommodate rotating shifts, overnight schedules, and overtime demands. We work around your operational schedule, not the other way around.
