Meeting People Where They Are
Sarah Carey is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Massachusetts who knows what it is like for a young person to feel misunderstood. She works with adolescents and adults living with ADHD, anxiety, depression and behavioral challenges, and she builds the kind of therapeutic relationship where someone can say the real thing out loud and then do something about it.
Her experience runs across community-based programs and specialized educational environments, which is where she learned to tailor an intervention to the person in front of her rather than to a manual. The approach is practical: a safe, trusting relationship first, then concrete tools that work in real life.
Sarah uses evidence-based practices including Dialectical Behavior Therapy and trauma-informed care, adapted to how developing minds work and to the demands of adult life. Patients leave with emotion regulation skills, ADHD-friendly systems and strategies to quiet the inner critic. Most importantly, they learn they do not have to navigate this alone.
For teens, families are part of the work. Sarah collaborates closely with parents so that what happens in the room is supported at home, and so parents understand what their child needs without having to guess.
I know what it is like for young people to feel misunderstood. Their experiences matter, and they deserve support that fits. I meet them where they are, with real understanding.

What Sarah Treats
Choose one to read how she approaches it.
ADHD
Therapeutic support for people whose ADHD brain feels chaotic behind an outwardly successful life. Sarah builds ADHD-friendly coping systems that actually hold, and coordinates with the prescribers here when medication is part of the plan.
Anxiety
Anxiety that keeps a person second-guessing themselves, including perfectionism and social anxiety. The work is concrete: understand the pattern, build the skill, use it in the situation that used to win.
Depression
Evidence-based therapy for adolescents and adults experiencing depressive symptoms, emotional ups and downs and low motivation, paced in pieces small enough to actually start.
Trauma
Trauma-informed care using DBT and therapeutic techniques adapted for developing minds and complex experiences. Every interaction is grounded in how trauma shapes development, behavior and relationships.
Behavioral Challenges
Collaborative work with young people and their families to address behavioral challenges, build emotional regulation and create a home environment that supports lasting change.
Who Sarah Works Best With
Fit matters. Here is an honest read on both sides of it.
Sarah is probably a good fit if you
- Are a teen, or the parent of one, who needs a therapist who takes young people seriously
- Are an adult who wants concrete skills rather than another round of open-ended talking
- Want DBT-based tools for emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness
- Want a therapist who will work with your family, not around it
- Are working with a prescriber here and want therapy that actually talks to them
- Have tried therapy before and found it too vague, too gentle or too abstract
Sarah may not be the right match if you
- Want medication management. James Kennedy, Jillian McNeil and Alyssa Plaud Mainelli are the prescribers on the team
- Want couples therapy as the main focus. Sarah’s work is individual therapy
- Are in acute crisis and need stabilization rather than ongoing outpatient therapy
Not sure? Our intake team will match you with the right clinician on the team, even if it is not Sarah.
Evidence-Based, and Real
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness, adapted specifically for how younger minds process and learn, and for adults who need the skills to work under pressure.
Trauma-Informed Care
Every interaction is grounded in an understanding of how trauma impacts development, behavior and relationships. The pace is set by what you can actually tolerate.
Practical Tools
Concrete strategies that work in real life. No abstract concepts that fall apart at school or at home. Emotion regulation, ADHD-friendly systems and self-compassion that is built, not assigned.
Family Collaboration
For adolescents, parents are partners. Sarah helps families understand what their child needs and how to build a home environment that supports the work.
